Words such as “demonic” have been used to condemn Indigenous ceremonies, Asian religions, African spiritual traditions, and unfamiliar forms of prayer.

Such judgments have often accompanied fear, cultural destruction, and violence.

Christians are called to spiritual discernment, but discernment requires truth, patient listening, and freedom from prejudice.

We should not name as evil what we have never taken time to understand.
