Interfaith engagement allows us to remain rooted while meeting others openly and serving beside them. Such judgments have often accompanied fear, cultural destruction, and violence. Christians are called to spiritual discernment, but discernment requires truth, patient listening, and freedom from prejudice. We should not name as evil what we have never taken time to understand. Discernment is necessary, but so is humility. Money, nationalism, race, power, political ideology, and even one’s own interpretation of religion can become idols. The first place to confront idolatry is within our own loyalties and desires. His warning should not become permission to curse every tradition we have not understood. The Gospel he defended centred upon grace, liberation, reconciliation, and a new humanity in Christ. Whenever Christianity becomes domination, prejudice, or fear, Christians themselves must ask whether the good news has been distorted. Christ offers a more demanding test. Does the teaching produce justice, compassion, humility, truthfulness, courage, prayer, and service? Interfaith discernment neither accepts every claim nor rejects every unfamiliar voice. It investigates carefully and watches what grows. But it becomes dangerous when we place our entire community on the side of light and another community entirely in darkness. Light and shadow pass through every human heart and institution. Interfaith honesty allows us to recognize truth in others while confronting prejudice, injustice, and hypocrisy within ourselves. Scripture “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers.” — 2 Corinthians 6:14 Reflection This verse is sometimes extended far beyond its setting to discourage friendship, cooperation, or respectful relationship with people of other faiths. A yoke binds two lives to the same controlling purpose. Paul’s concern can be read as a warning against partnerships that compromise conscience. Christ Himself ate with outsiders, spoke with Samaritans, praised a Roman centurion, and received those whom others avoided. We can preserve integrity without withdrawing love. Bridge Insight Bahá’í teachings encourage fellowship with the followers of all religions in a spirit of friendliness and companionship.
